3 yr Old Class Tuesday and Thursday 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM 11:30-1:30
All children must be three by September 1 of the upcoming school year. These children must also be potty trained. Each class has a maximum enrollment of 14 students with one teacher and one aide.
Our three-year-old class begins as a very social class. For many children this is the first time they are ever in an organized classroom atmosphere. We begin the year by stressing friendship, sharing, taking turns, kindness, and all the social graces. We also work a lot on learning the routine of the day. Where do we hang our coats? Where do we put our backpacks? What do we do when our things are away? There are many new things to learn.
A day at Cedarville Nursery school gives children many ways to socialize as well as develop individually. Each day begins with circle time where the calendar, weather and theme of the day are discussed. We also have show and tell at this time. The children then participate in free play based on various center areas set up in the classroom. The rest of the day may include exercise, music, story time, crafts and snack. The day ends, weather permitting, with outside play.
Skills for the three-year-old begin with color recognition for which they will make a color book. They then proceed to shape recognition where they complete a shape book. Shapes also introduce scissors—there are many cutting exercises involved. Skill time later progresses to matching, sequencing, differentiating, etc. They will also begin to learn to write their first name during the course of the year. We strive to present all our activities in an atmosphere that is fun and comfortable. We always love to hear that the children can not wait to come to school!
