Pre-K Class Monday, Wednesday, & Friday 9:00 AM - 11:30 AM 11:40 AM - 2:10 PM
Pre-K classes are for children 4 and 5, most of these children will be going to kindergarten the following year. The class has a maximum of 14 children with one teacher and one aide.
Our Pre-K classes are very busy. The teachers devote a lot of time getting the children ready to go on to kindergarten. Their day includes opening time, where they discuss the calendar, weather, and do show-n-tell. The children will have free play and craft time. During this period the children can chose from different activities to engage in or they may just enjoy themselves at any of our play areas. Simultaneously, the teacher will be at the craft table creating the masterpiece of the day. Crafts and units usually revolve around the happenings of the year: seasons, holidays, community helpers, good foods, five senses, etc. There are various field trips that go on throughout the year also. The rest of the day includes story, skill, and if we’re lucky outside time.
Skill time for this age group will include a sampling of many things they will be exposed to when they reach kindergarten. This includes: letter writing and recognition, number writing and recognition, practicing writing first then later last names, number/numeral matching, upper/lower case matching, addresses and telephone numbers, etc. We here at the school try very hard to make sure our Pre-K children are ready to go on to kindergarten, but at the same time we want them to have fun and enjoy themselves.
